The Kenyon Volunteer Fire Department is a 30-member, all volunteer department that covers a 122-square mile radius that includes seven area townships as well as the city of Kenyon. The department is fully trained to Firefighter I level through the Minnesota State Certification Board, with many volunteers trained to the Firefighter II and EMT levels.  As of March 1, 2011, Kenyon First Responders will respond to medical calls.

The department protects the area using seven fire trucks: 3 pumpers, 1 - 3000 gallon tanker, 1 - 2000 gallon water tanker, a grass fire truck and a rescue truck. Additional equipment includes heavy rescue extrication equipment, a thermal imaging camera, a four-gas air monitoring system used especially for carbon monoxide detection, full interior firefighting equipment including NFPA-approved turnout gear and SCBA systems.

The Kenyon Fire Department is active in the Southeastern Minnesota Region 15, the Minnesota State Fire Department Association, the Minnesota State Fire Chief's Association, the International Association of Arson Investigators, the Minnesota Chapter of Arson Investigators, the National Fire Protection Association, and the National Association of Fire Investigators.
